I shot my first deer with a Weatherby Vanguard VGS back in the late '80s. That same rifle took many more deer, several wild hogs, and a black bear, always performing flawlessly. My nephew has used it for several years now, and experienced the same results, while I've moved on to a new generation Vanguard. I was shocked to find that the new model, with its composite stock, stainless barrel, and familiar feel, is every bit the gun that my original Vanguard was, PLUS. Accuracy is awesome: one-inch holes at 200 yards, all day long. The Monte Carlo stock and heavy-for-caliber weight make the gun a JOY to shoot: recoil feels more like a .243 than a .270. And quality & durability are absolutely Weatherby. You can't buy a better gun than this for twice the money.
