All True.....,
February 01, 2013
All of the reviewers are spot on.. but it does have one (to me) snigglet.... a very long trigger pull.... after you rack a round, the trigger pull distance is three miles..... the trigger is almost at the rear guard stop before you hear "bang".......
If you regularly shoot a Glock, Ruger, PPS, you'll go waaaaay past the point where you're used to the drama starting. If this is the only weapon that you shoot, you'll get used to it in no time. The action is smooth and reliable.....
Just different.

New 740,
August 14, 2012
Bought a PT740 over the bashing of many on the internet. The gun was initially full of packing grease and was filthy. The action was gritty, trigger was mushy /indistinct and the mags wouldn't drop free.
I then cleaned out all the grease, removed the striker and cleaned / lubed it. Greased / lubed and generally loved every moving part. Cleaned the mag well, flushed the mag release button, lubed the snickers out of it while working it hard. Took about an hour of fiddle time.
Results? The slide works smoothly, the trigger is light and has a sharp break in SA and a smooth build up of pressure to a sharp break in DA. The mags will drop free with a press of the button.
Fired 100 rounds in 2 sessions. Easily able to put 6 rounds of 180gr fmj into a 2.5" circle at 25ft.
As with many high power high recoiling mouse guns with the trigger releasing at the back, it's easy for the OPERATOR to pull the gun low and often left too. I put in a laser bore sighter that goes into the barrel and compared the dot to sights. The dot was about 12" HIGH and off to the right about 3" at 30'. Had to adjust the sights UP to compensate. It hits nuts on when I do my part, but will drop them 3' low when a flincher is at the wheel. I suspect that 99% of the low left issues are caused by a loose grip nut. ;)

Absolutely the best bang for the buck! Thin yet comfortable to carry and shoot. Best combination of size and power I have found. Love it.

Needs work,
December 27, 2011
Bought for concealed carry, sending it back to Taurus for rear sights to be replaced. Shots far left and low. Tried to adjust but could not even come close to hitting the target at 25 feet. Hopefully it will be better when I get it back. Other than the sights it feels good and recoil is a little more than my Ruger P94 but the PT 740 has a much smaller frame, so that is expected.
