So I bought this because I wanted to give Taurus a shot. I have Glocks, Sigs, 1911's, you name it and I've probably owned the brand. The first 50 rounds I put through this straight from the box had at least 4 jams that I recollect, there could have been 1 or 2 more.
I did purchase cheap Wal-Mart bulk ammo, Federal's value pack, and wrote it off on that. I also figured that since the gun was new it may need a "break-in period," which I think is BS anyway. Every other gun I've had has never had to be "broken in."
So taking that into consideration I go back and buy PMC and two boxes of what I would carry in this particular gun, 180gr Winchester PDX1. No, this wasn't necessary but I really wanted to give this gun a fair chance.
Out of the two 20 round boxes that I put through this particular firearm I had a total of 7 jams. Same thing with the PMC ammo, just a bit more jams.
So I took into consideration, really trying to give this gun a fair review, and I let two of my buddies at the range shoot some mags. Both had jams, it's not just me.
I call Taurus, they get my info, I ship it in. Three months later I receive the firearm back with a letter of what was fixed, etc.
I was so pumped thinking that I had a lemon from Taurus and THOUGHT it was fixed. Well, guess what. I go to the range the following weekend and put another 250 rnds through it. Out of those 250 rounds I had a total of 8 jams. Now, while this jam ratio was lower than previous, it is still WAY too much for my liking. I call Taurus, they tell me I can send it back in for another "evaluation" of the handgun.
I decline the offer and debate making a YouTube video of my completely thrashing the gun by doing severe torture tests and eventually blowing it up with tanarite. I unfortunately can't do that to a firearm, regardless of how crappy it is, and I just keep it in my safe, at the very bottom, where it can rot away and never be seen again.
Yes, I could trade it in, but I have more respect for others that would purchase this after I sell it. I wouldn't want any knowledgeable buyer pick this up and carry for defensive carry, and be left with a jam on their second shot at the bad guy.
It may be Taurus' Brazilian like, which this is, and it may just be Taurus in general. But I do know one thing: I will NOT be picking up another one of Taurus' handguns.
