Never owned a Taurus before, but wow, this gun is impressive at any price. First observation, the finish is much nicer than expected, beautiful deep polished blueing that compares favorably to anything I've seen. The slide/barrel/bushing fit is tight but operates smoothly. 'Pretty' also applies inside the gun, the quality of the metalwork and finishing is first rate throughout, no ugly spots, finish flaws, or ham-handed machining anywhere. I've had it to the range twice now, about 250 rounds down the bore w/no failures. Out of the box the gun shot to point-of-aim with no sight adjustments. It has a nice, fairly light trigger and is more accurate than I am. I honestly don't see what spending another $400-$500 on a Colt or Kimber would buy you except for a name. Two thumbs up on the PT1911 !!
