The Phoenix-2 is one of the best selling military knives in Russia. It has also proven popular with pig / wild boar hunters when dispatching their quarry. Its popularity was gained mainly due to it's almost indestructible design and good balance.
It is built like a T-34 tank, tough as nails. You can beat on this knife for forever and a day and know it will still function time and time again. The unique cross-section of the blade, the one-piece blade / tang construction and the strong handle / blade attachment are what equates to the success of this model knife. Blade, guard and tang are milled out of one piece of 6mm thick Russian 65X13 steel. The technique used when manufacturing this knife is similar to the process used when milling steel firearm components. The final blade will have and almost unbreakable cross-section, similar to that of a steel "I" beam used in the construction industry. Blade tang goes through to the end of the handle and protrudes slightly.
The Elastron handle is then molded over the top and into the tang, so, once again, if the handle grip were to work it's way loose, it would still remain in place. The entire blade / guard and tang are all coated with a black oxide finish that is designed to protect the blade from the elements and reduce the glare / reflected light.
