On March 6th, 1836, the day the Alamo fell, Samuel Colt started production of his new revolving cylinder pistol in Paterson, New Jersey. This revolutionary firearm provided five shots and sported a hidden trigger that dropped out of the frame when the pistol was cocked. Enthusiastically received by the Texas Rangers, the new pistol was soon referred to as the Texas Paterson and for good reason. In 1844 sixteen Texas Rangers armed with Patersons held off eighty Comanche braves, killing thirty-four of them before the Indians finally withdrew.
The Uberti Texas Paterson is a faithful reproduction of the pistols carried by Col. Jack Coffee Hayes, Capt. Sam Walker and the other fourteen Texas Rangers on that fateful day in 1844.
