The S&W SW40VE Is A Good Pistol at a good price,
January 24, 2013
S&W's SW40VE ("Sigma") is a good pistol at a great price for home defense, Concealed Carry or whatever. It is reliable and fits the hand nicely. Very comfortable to shoot at the range, and the 40 S&W round packs a punch. The 14 round mag is well made and easy to load.
I've had mine for two years now and several hundred rounds down range. Zero problems.
I don't carry "one in the pipe", just for safety reasons. A personal choice. The slide is quick to rack and load so I don't worry about not being "cocked 'n locked". The trigger is single-action only and is deliberately a heavy pull, for safety reasons; there is not an external safety. If you prefer to carry with one round in the pipe then it's in battery and ready to go to work. Kind of like a revolver all loaded up.
You can't go wrong with the S&W SW40VE.

Great Gun,Great Price, $$ Well Spent.,
January 20, 2012
The gun is light enough for carry, yet it doesn't jump out of my hand.Mine is pretty accurate out to 20 ft.I believe it is an all around good gun for personal protection as well as shooting cans.Let me tell you that the trigger is long and slightly hard but it is a DAO gun.Having shot revolvers in the past,I do not have a problem with it.It is like most things in life, you have to get use to them.Practice is the key.By shooting your gun often you will not only get use to it but you will get quite accurate as well.Being a (double action only) the trigger was purposely made long and hard for safety reasons as there is no manual safety.Smith & Wesson is known for quality guns,The Sigma carries the same Lifetime Warranty as their more pricey guns. Have fun and be Safe.

A very good, reliable pistol for low $$,
January 05, 2012
I have been using my S&W, SW40VE, for about 5 months now, and have put over 500 rnds down the barrel.
I was skeptical about the pistol due mainly due to the low cost 'new'; my concerns were unwarrented! The gun is reliable, easy to use and keep clean.
The only problem I've had was in firing JHP's, which would not load without getting 'jammed'; this was due to the design of the bullet and not the pistol.
The iron sights on my gun are accurate, but I would like to mount a holographic recticle for speed in target location.

Very good weapon,man stopping power,
September 28, 2011
I have owned this gun for couple of years and have had no issues with it. It is easy to clean and it has never ever let me down. The weight of the gun is perfect and I use itall of the time.I had to take down a buck on the roadway and it was a great performer. I use both hollow point and full metal jackets and this is a weapon I can hand down to one of my sons when they are ready. That is how much I am impressed with smith and wesson. Great gun!!

I like it,
August 18, 2011
I have number of different guns, Kimber, XD45, Glock, CZ, and the sw40ve. It's one of my favorites. I put over 2000 rounds through it and no ftf's or fte's. Accurate enough and fun to shoot. I give it 2 thumbs up!

Smith and Wesson SW40VE,
June 02, 2011
I bought my Sigma 40 brand new, it was the first handgun i'd ever purchased. At first i really liked the gun, it never FTF or FTE, it always worked reliably, but I had never owned another gun to compare it to, nor had i even ever shot a handgun, i grew up around them but for whatever reason my father never felt inclined enough to let me shoot one. I've shot, I had it for about 6 months before i took my CCW class. Even before i took the class i noticed the gun was somewhat inaccurate, but while taking the class it was somewhat embarassing. My groups looked like someone shot the paper with a 12Ga. I was only standing 5 yds away from the paper and aiming at the middle of the paper everytime. I've had everyone I know shoot it and it did the same for them. I ended up trading the gun away for a XD-40, and wow the difference is night and day, i can shot a plinker from 40 yds away and smack it all day with every round. I have since bought a M&P to add to the collection and it's dead on accurate too. If you just need something to defend yourself in your home then this is an ok gun for that, but if you actually wanna shoot something then just step up to the SD9/40 or the M&P9/40, way more accurate and same reliability. The M&P is an amazing gun, if you wanna pay for it. I still like Smith and Wessons, reliability is unmatched but the accuracy with the sigma is something i can't live with.

Great for the Money,
December 18, 2010
I just bought this pistol and was able to take it to the range yesterday. I bought it because I have a SW9VE that I really like. I fired 100 rounds through the SW40VE. No FTF or FTE. I was using cheap Herter's steel cased ammo and no problems at all. I was not able to get as tight of groups with the SW40VE as I am able to with the SW9VE at 10 yards. The SW40VE by no means was bad. I was shooting 5 round groups and all 5 rounds were in the center mass of the target. The pistol feels great in my hands. The trigger is a heavy pull compaired to other striker fired pistols I have shot but I was able to rapid fire 10 rounds and all were in center mass. With the $50 rebate going on till 12/31/10 this pistol was a great deal for me. This is a great pistol from a great company. I don't think you can go wrong for the price with the rebate. I love the 40s&w round. Very nice to shoot.

My Review of S&W .40 Sigma Series,
December 17, 2010
I gave a S&W .40 Sigma Series and I have to say that even though I didnt purchase my sigma from this site...I do have to say this about the gun and that is, this gun ran perfectly from the time I brought it until now. I love my gun and I wouldnt trade for anything in the world and I have to let everyone know that you might hate the firearm when you first put it to work...but give it time, because thats what I did and my gun performs outstandingly and once you get past the breaking in period trust you will not be able to put it down

Great affordable first handgun!,
December 17, 2010
Overall the Smith and Wesson Sigma series offers a great introductory handgun. The Sigma series is unparalelled in the market, it is a excellent handling, accurate dependable and consistent handgun at an affordable price. Its not the top quality that Smith and Wesson manfactures by any means but offers a new shooter an excellent starter piece at a fair price, something they can be comfortable using and getting acquainted with before making a larger purchase for a somewhat fancier step up model. Its a Plain Jane type of handgun but comes from a well known company, that produces high quality products, Ive shot several and thought they performed wonderfully (no jams, stovepipes, consistent accuracy and comfortably pointed).

Good gun for the money.,
November 29, 2010
I purchased this handgun because I needed a gun that had knockdown power but didn't have the money at the time for a Glock. This is the first handgun I have ever owned, but I have fired other handguns before.
The first thing I noticed was how light it was compared to other all metal pistols I have fired. I have worn it around my back yard in a holster and hardly know it is there.
The weapon feeds well with every round I have tried, from Federal 180 grain full metal jackes to Fiocchi frangible rounds. I have put several hundred rounds through it and I have never had a failure to feed or a jam.
The accuracy is good enough for me. I won't be driving tacks with it anyway so as long as I hit the target close to where I intended I am happy. Using Federal full metal jackets I got a 3" group with a little bit of work.
My one negative comment might be the trigger. I have confirmed with the company that it has a 10-12 pound trigger pull, and that takes some getting used to in the beginning.
The supplied magazines work well and feed well. Each will hold 14 rounds, and are put together well. Offering a different finish besides stainless steel on the magazine and the upper would be appreciated.
Overall, 4 out of 5 stars.
