Sig P938 9MM Sub Compact Pistol, G10 Grips W/Night Sights

After reading some of the problems people were having I was a little scared to buy one of the first production runs of this gun, so I waited. I just picked up one of these with a manufacture date of mid-February this year (2013). I took it to the range with everything from 115 grain Hornady Critical Defense to 124 grain reloads and ran through 125 rounds without a hiccup. Recoil is much lighter than I expected, especially for a 16 gram near-pocket tiny pistol. And despite its diminutive size, the extended magazine allows my XL-size hands to get all fingers on the grip. The trigger is a bit heavy @ just over 8 lbs initially but has lightened up after one round of shooting and now shows 7.5 lbs on my Lyman scale. On the plus side, it's very crisp, with very little take-up and no creep. Reset is also fairly short; extremely short when compared to its DA competitors. Sights are awesome SIGLITEs and were spot-on accurate right out of the box, with groupings just over 2" @ 15 yards unsupported. Not a great grouping, but this is a TINY pistol. Build quality is very nice, and takedown is not that bad, but compressing the recoil spring can be a little challenging. Perhaps I'll get better with more practice. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and recommend you find one you can rent to give it a try. For a personal protection gun, it's very good...make that very, very good. I'd rate it at 4.5 stars if that were an option, but it's not, so I'm rounding up. Good job Sig!

Out of the box, the Sig Sauer P938 had numerous failt-to-Eject (FTE) problems--sometimes as many as one round per magazine (one 7-round mag and one 6-round mag); however, Sig's forum reads to use nothing less than 124-grain ammo (I was using 115gr). Continuing, the sights were off to the left--around one inch at six (6) yards. The armorer at Impact Guns pushed the rear (night) sight for free! (Thanks!) I called Sig Sauer customer support and wanted them to zero the rear sight--but they refused telling me over the phone that it was up to me. I told them that my Glock G34, CZ P-07 Duty .40SW, and HK 9mm were spot-on right out of the box--and (besides the HK) all of these weapons were considerably LESS than the Sig Sauer P938 9mm. The P938 now performs flawlessly after polishing the feed ramp to a mirror finish and switching my ammo to 124 grain (and having the rear sight drifted). It makes for a GREAT conceal weapon--but beware (according to NUMEROUS complaints on the WWW) the P938 will more than likely shoot to the left (around 7 inches off at 20 yards)...and damaging the night sights could cost your between $100-200 to replace (after a gunsmith installs them with a Sig sight adjustment tool--around $200 for the Pro series of pistols if you were to purchase it yourself for this single job). I later shot the Springfield XDs (.45 ACP) and out of the box it's dead zero--and with FO front sights and $200 less than the Sig Sauer P938 (and just fractions of an inch larger). Wish I had discover the XDs first...oh well, I'm still pleased with the Sig. Oh, and I replaced the grips with some Hogue (custom) rubber grips for the P938 directly from Hogue's website for $30--makes for an even better weapon!
