In the Dallas Police Department we are issued the Sig P226 9mm with a trigger variance called DAK (not sure if they still make that variance), and I can say after shooting thousands of rounds through my duty weapon since it was issued to me in academy, this is a darn good pistol and I've never had a stoppage (jam). For the beginner, this 9mm is the way to go; cheaper ammo and less kick. If your life is on the line and you have good trigger control, I would recommend going with the P226 in the .357 Sig caliber (it generally has better muzzle energy than a 9mm, .40 S&W, or even .45 Auto). Always remember the bottom line: "If you ain't hittin', you ain't winnin'! Sig has done their part in the equation. It's time for you to do yours: buy it, learn it, and practice, practice, practice.
Be good and stay safe.
