An excellent shotgun,
December 16, 2010
I've fired many shotguns over the years and this is absolutely my favorite pump action.
It's lightweight and well balanced. The recoil is mild even without a pad. It's a pleasure to shoot.
I took it to the range with some friends. After shooting my 500, three of them purchased 500's of their own.

Mossberg 500 Spl 12g 20" 8 shot defensive shotgun,
November 25, 2010
There's not a better tactical/defense shotgun of this quality for the money. It's a simple, straight forward, no frills defensive shotgun. It's just like a using a sledgehammer; very simple to operate and it hits like one, too. The 500 is THE ONLY shotgun to pass the U.S. Military's tortuous 3443E protocol. The tang safety is thumb operated and easy to see and use. This allows your trigger finger to be used for what it is ment to be used for; the trigger, not the safety unlike many other shotguns whose safeties are operated with your trigger finger. The 20" barrel allows for 8 shells vs only 6 with the 18" barrel. The extra 2" on the barrel is well worth the extra two rounds of firepower. I own four of the 20" versions and they are the best defensive investment I have ever made. The Mossberg 500 is a must have item. PS. Leave the pistol grip in the box and use the full length stock if you want a proper sight picture which gives you the ability to hit your target dead on.
