88™ All Purpose model features a 12 gauge, 3" chamber, 6-shot capacity, interchangeable 28" non-ported ventilated rib barrel and an interchangeable Accu-Choke™ tube system with one "Modified" tube. Good all around shotfun, December 17, 2010

This is a great shot gun if you want a all around shotgun for very good price. There are only a few difference between this shotgun and Mossberg 500 this price is way better. If you looking just for home security I would recommend the 20in barrel with 8+1 instead of this 5+1. This shotgun is better for giving you other options like hunting and more distance.

This is great! A cheap, easy shotgun! It is almost everything the mossberg 500 is accept for two factors that I find important. The safety only prevents the trigger from being pulled unlike the mossberg where the safety prevents the hammer from falling. This means that the maverick 88 is NOT DROPSAFE! That's important to me. The other problem is that the forend grip is not interchangable with other aftermarket parts unless you spend about $60 - $90 in extra parts to make it fit. I didn't know these two things before buying and that made a big difference in my opinion about the gun. If this gun appears to fit what you're looking for go with a mossberg 500 instead and you will be much happier!
