I purchased a box of Hornady .44 Magnum loads in 300 gr XTP configuration. I got the chance to put them to the test out of my Model 629 with 6" barrel. I have a Tasco red dot aim point on top with zero magnification. I was about 25' up a tree, in a mostly wooded area, when what I thought were 2 does came out feeding about 100+ yards to my two o'clock position. I watched them feed, hoping they would feed closer to me. They made it to about 80 yards away from me and the one turned and started feeding away again. I figured it was now or never. I cocked the hammer for single action accuracy, then I put the red dot on the shoulder of the one closest to me and squeezed off the shot. The first deer (a button buck I later learned) instantly was knocked down and lay there unable to get up. The second deer (a doe) about 15 yards farther away, to my amazement, did not run. I put the red dot just behind the shoulder and squeezed. She too was instantly knocked to the ground. They were not instant kills but they did not get up. I am here to tell you that Hornady bullets are worth the price. They perform just as advertised. Sincerely, Fred Hedrick, Delaware.
