Nice Proprietary Pistol,
October 24, 2012
I owned a FN 5.7 for near 2 years; It's fun to shoot, but the recoil is not anywhere near a 22LR like other mentioned. It's round moves about 2000-2100fps leading to a good amount of push-back, more akin to a 45ACP in a full frame gun. Accuracy is average. Quality of weapon is excellent. Grips are not adjustable, and tend to be for folks with large hands. Recommend frangible rounds for defensive carry/conceal; As another said, you dont want a bullet to travel forever if one missed the intended target, or hit the target and goes through them.

One of my favorites times 2,
August 16, 2012
I purchased my first new FN Five Seven pistol back in June 2012. I really like it, and I purchased a second new FN Five Seven a month later. I've fired Several hundreds of rounds through my first FN... I'm now averaging about $16.00 to $19.97 per box of 50 rounds of the SR197 factory ammo, depending on the quantities I purchase. I also like my Sig P229 40, and as for my new Springfield XDS 45 ... feels great too. For me, the money spent is worth the investment in these quality handguns.

Excellent Pistol,
March 17, 2012
I used to own this gun back when SS192 ammo was easy to find but I sold it when the ammo prices for this spiked. I dont know what the guy below is saying about the accuracy because its one of the most accurate guns ive ever had and I have over 2 dozen pistols. Best thing is the recoil is so light you can unload all 20 in record time all on target with no problem. I am buying this gun again now that it doesnt cost over $1 a round to shoot. Excellent gun well worth the money!

Best Pistol Ever...,
July 12, 2011
It holds 20 armor piercing rounds, can kill out to 200 yeards, has no recoil and weighs 1/3 less than a full size Glock 9mm. Yeah it costs alot but it's worth the bragging rights.

Hard to beat, except for the price,
December 22, 2010
Yes, it is expensive for a polymer pistol. Yes, it uses a proprietary cartridge which isn’t the cheapest out there. BUT, if you are serious about investing in a service/sporting/defensive handgun, this one gives you the features and bragging rights to justify the price. Mine came with three mags (thank you) which can be stuffed with 20 rounds of low recoil, high velocity goodness. Reliability has been faultless. Weight is comparable to the Glock family of pistols. Accuracy is as good as or better than any 9mm service pistol I have used. This is some serious hardware and it is easily my favorite polymer pistol.

Really fun gun to shoot,
December 12, 2010
This is a really fun gun to have in your collection. The rounds are a little pricey but not horrible at ~40 cents each (Impact sells them in bulk 2000rnd batches). Cheaper than .45. The hi-cap mags keep the fun going without spending a lot of time reloading. The adjustable sights allow you to dial in your accuracy. This is a spectacularly fun gun to shoot. Too bad it is a little on the pricey side. If you can afford it, it is a blast!

Great gun for full time gunfighters.,
November 21, 2010
Undoubtedly a great pistol, but I'd never buy it. For one, it's got that high velocity cartridge. Costs money, which ruins the shooting for fun perspective (unless you're a senator or something), It's too high velocity to be used in self defense unless you're in the habit of shooting armored personnel (or you're the only lawyer in town with a daughter who will get hit by that bullet as it passes clean through said armored personnel) and that the gun has a smaller round. That's just me though.
If you're a professional gunfighter, maybe this is right for you.

NOT AS GOOD AS HOPED & NOT GOOD FOR THE PRICE,
November 17, 2010
I was generous and gave it 3 out of 5. The gun is not very accurate. Sent it back to FNH (a fairly slow process in itself) and they said they shot it and what they sent me said it wasn't any more accurate for them than it was for me. They shot about 10 tens as I recall and NONE of them hit the target near the center. They said they shot at 20 meters. For this kind of money it should have been better or customer service should have been better and done something about it. I would not again pay so much knowing about the lack of accuracy. They sent me their targets--without comment--and just assumed I'd be happy. We'll I'm not happy. Want a good gun: buy a Springfield XDM and also save a lot of money.

Is this a Laser gun?,
November 17, 2010
This is one of the funnest guns you will ever shoot. It has the recoil of a .22 pistol and the velocity of a AR15. It holds 20 rounds normally but i got the 30 round mag and it is sick. I have a TLR2 laser light and I target shoot and pig hunt with this baby and it is addicting! don't let people rag you about the ammo cost, its about the same as .45 ACP.
Won't regret this pistol for Home D or practical use!

An Overlooked Jewel,
November 16, 2010
I'm a retired police sergeant. I am a fairly large person (200 lbs plus)and had no trouble carrying a 1911 in plain clothes. Except that the 1911 is a heavy handgun. The last decade before retirement I carried a Beretta Model 92, then a Beretta Model 96, both on an off duty.
Now I have discovered the FNH 5.7x28. And I fell in love. It is about the same size as my Berettas but is lighter in weight and has practically no recoil, yet is accurate out to 100 yards. The rounds look like a .223 that got wet and shrunk, but they are very flat shooting and very fast.
This pistol has several advantages: first, the location of the external safety lever is on the right side of the frame, just above the trigger guard. When preparing to fire, your finger should not be on the trigger, but extended on the frame just above the trigger guard, so the movement to take the safety to "off" position is merely bringing your trigger finger down. Very quick, very simple and does not require repositioning the pistol in your hand, like nearly always happens to me with a 1911.
The sights are large, both fore and aft, making it easier to quickly obtain proper sighting.
And it fits nicely into the holsters I already had for my Beretta. Plus it has a 20 round magazine, where my Beretta Model 96 only has 11.
It was originally designed by FNH to be a military sidearm and would be quite effective in that role. Yet whenever I see articles in a gun magazine, it is referred to as being for "varmits and small game." I disagree. It is now my primary handgun for concealed carry and I commend it to you for that use.

The future is now.,
November 15, 2010
This gun is by far my favorite in my collection. Its light weight and 20 round capacity makes this a fantastic carry weapon. One of the best things that FNH has done is give you 3 magazines instead of the standard 2. It's smooth firing and super easy to clean. A full 10 out of 10.
