Birchwood Casey ''Super Blue'' Liquid Gun Blue 3 oz

I have a .22 rifle that was made sometime around 1918 or so, that I got from my grand father. The outside of the barrel was rusting. I cleaned the rust off and used super blue to re-blue is and worked great. Hasn't worn off yet and I carry that rifle in my truck a lot. I cannot say that super blue works any better than any other gun blue, but it did a great job for me. I recommend this for any looking to re-blue a gun.

I bought this product to redo a very old Remington cap lock revolver. The prep was a little time consuming. Scrubbed the gun down with scotch bright and a lot of degreasing. Once I got through the degreasing the bluing went on well. I painted it on and let it sit then rinsed it off and repeated the process. I got a nice deep finish that looked amazing. But the first time I cocked the hammer back it rubbed right off the cylinder from the cylinder latch. And the first time I put it in a holster and attempted a quick draw I lost more bluing on the muzzle, cylinder, and along the top strap. I would say that it might work marvelously for fixing scratches or rough spots on a weapon but it defiantly doesn't hold up as a full bluing. Also once oil touches the finish you either leave it as is or start over from step one, stripping the area. I put 5 layers on, was going for 10 but it got late. So I ran some light oil on it to keep the finish from rusting more. he next day I tried to degrease it with denatures alcohol and there was no getting that oil back out. So it holds oil well. I keep some on hand for scratches as I said above. I've also used it to fill in the finish on knife blades and handles. Though as you might guess it doesn't last long.
