Springfield GI 5IN 45PK PKG

I've shot, but don't own this gun. It's on my list for the next one I buy. It is a good example of what the issued 1911 was. It is very reliable. The trigger is decent, not like the TRP i've shot however. Great package for the $$$ IMO.

This springer is pretty much as close as you can get nowadays to the original GI model. It doesn't come with all the bells and whistles that most other 1911s are equipped with, but the upside to this is that it is also a fraction of the cost! That doesn't by any means make it a bad gun though, quite the opposite actually. It shoots just as well as many other .45s that I have tried and is very comfortable in the hand. Some people will complain about the low sights, but it really isn't that hard to use unless you are shooting at slightly longer distances or just have bad vision. On face, I would rate this gun a 4/5 as compared to similar guns by springfield and other manufacturers, but the excellent price boosts this babe to a 5/5 in my opinion!

Great handgun and an excellent price! Easy to tear down and clean, and tons of options and customizations possible. I've found the GI reproduction to be comfortable at the range as well as concealed as a carry weapon on the streets of New Orleans. If you're looking for an easily maintained, powerful handgun, then this is the piece for you. The only downside I've found is the fixed sights (but if you want custom sights, don't buy the GI model). Highly recommend this as a first .45!
